Бой Альварес — Лара начался довольно оживленно. Эрисланди Лара решил использовать ту же методику что и Флойд Мейвезер который выиграл предыдущий бой у Сауля Альвареса, по очкам. А именно Эрисланди Лара активно перемещался по рингу и наносил быстрые удары с расчетом набора очков. Сауль Альварес как и в предыдущем бою гонялся по всему рингу за своим соперником. В такой манере прошел весь бой и ничего зрелищного особо не было. Победа Сауля Альвареса по решению судьи со счетом 115-113, 113—115, 117—111.
Чемпион мира в первом среднем весе по версиям WBA (Super) и IBO Эрисланди Лара (24-2-2, 14 КО) считает, что в некоторых боях судьи были благосклонны к Саулю Альваресу (49-1-2, 34 КО).
