Марина — молодая аспирантка, готовясь к защите диссертации по новому типу дыхательной смеси для аквалангистов, делает ошибку в расчетах, в результате её смесь дает «любовный эффект». Проверяя состав своей смеси на себе, она «влюбляется» в своего научного руководителя — Котова, который давно мечтал затащить в постель молоденькую аспирантку. Но пригубив вместе с Мариной коньяка на брудершафт, он получает пощечину. Алкоголь блокирует действие смеси. Вместе с Мариной в университете трудится кандидат наук Серов, у него большие неприятности из-за завкафедрой Глебовой. Марина предлагает Серову сделку: она помогает «влюбить» в него Глебову, а он должен помочь с защитой диссертации…
